Wes Brown, a former star for Manchester United, reportedly had a £2.6 million salary but was nonetheless declared bankrupt.

Wes Brown apparently received a bankruptcy ruling from the High Court. Brown’s bankruptcy was acknowledged by the High Court on April 12 after reports that he made roughly £50,000 per week while playing for the Red Devils in the Premier League were made public.

Brown was the subject of a bankruptcy petition filed by HMRC in February. The High Court later confirmed it last week.

The former defender made his United debut in 1998 and appeared in more than 200 games before leaving the team in 2011 to join Sunderland.

A versatile player who could play at a right-back and centre-back, Brown won two Champions Leagues, five Premier League titles and an array of other trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Brown started his career with Manchester United after enrolling in the team’s academy in 1992 at the age of 12. After going pro in 1996, he made his senior debut in 1998 and developed into a semi-regular first-team player during the club’s Treble-winning 1998–99 campaign.

After missing a full season due to injury, Brown returned to the first team regularly starting in 2000. He received countless awards over the course of the following eight years, including four more Premier League championships, an FA Cup, a League Cup, and another Champions League.

Sir Alex Ferguson, a former United manager, said that Brown is “without a doubt, the best natural defender this club has had in years.”Brown was permitted to leave Manchester United after 15 years and join Sunderland.

Since his international debut in 1999, Brown has made 23 appearances for England. Notably, he traveled with the England team to Japan and South Korea for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Brown made his international debut in 1999 against Hungary, earning a spot in Sven-Göran Eriksson’s team for the 2002 World Cup despite spending most of his time on the sidelines.
