An Accra High Court has ruled in favour of Charles Kwarteng, a former Commercial Affairs Manager of Hearts of Oak, in his wrongful dismissal case against the club.
The court has ordered the Phobians to pay him GHS 108,637 in compensation. Kwarteng’s legal battle stemmed from what he claimed was a breach of contract by the club, leaving him with unpaid salaries, fuel allowances, SSNIT contributions, and mandatory Tier 2 pension payments dating back to 2019.
His initial appeal to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was dismissed by the Player Status Committee, which ruled that the absence of a certified employment contract prevented them from adjudicating the matter.
Determined to seek justice, Kwarteng took the case to the High Court, where he secured victory.
Kwarteng joined Hearts of Oak in 2019 as General Manager for Commercial and Merchandising before transitioning to Chief Commercial Officer.
He played a pivotal role in the club’s marketing and branding efforts before resigning in 2021, shortly after the team clinched a domestic double.
With the court’s ruling, Hearts of Oak now faces the obligation of settling the compensation, effectively closing this long-standing legal dispute.
The club has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
