In a recent appearance on the Honest Brunch, Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi shared his thoughts on the dangers of blindly following trends.
He stressed that while it’s tempting to jump on popular bandwagons, doing so stifles creativity and limits individuality.
“The danger in following a trend is that it stifles creativity,” Bakassi explained. “You’re jumping on a bandwagon without knowing where it’s headed or what the original creator’s intentions are.”

He elaborated on the importance of originality, explaining that by choosing to be authentic, individuals have the freedom to carve their own path.
“When you’re original, you have the freedom to create,” he said. “And at the end of the day, your creativity can even spark new trends that others will follow.”
This concept of creating something unique, Bakassi noted, is crucial not only for personal success but also for the growth of the industry.
