Nigerian comedian and content creator Denilson Igwe has broken his silence on his fallout with Mark Angel, shedding light on the dynamics that strained their relationship.
Speaking on the Honest Brunch podcast hosted by Nedu Wazobia, Denilson detailed how financial disputes, manipulation, and unacknowledged contributions led to their eventual separation.
Denilson revealed that his issues with Mark Angel started during a significant business deal.
“When I came back, my father kept calling me because he had been hearing about the money that was supposed to come in. At one point, he asked me to report the matter, so we involved a lawyer and even the police,” Denilson narrated.
He recounted being sidelined during critical discussions about their contract. “The lawyer, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), and Mark went into a closed-door meeting.
“I was asked to wait outside. When they called me in later, my father told me to remove Mark’s name from the contract because he claimed to have already settled him. That’s how I got my share—₦3 million—but Mark had already negotiated something much bigger for himself,” he alleged.
Denilson described feeling deceived and undervalued. “Mark is the kind of person who, if you meet him now, he’ll make you doubt yourself. He’s that good at twisting the truth. I was outside while they talked for hours, and by the time they were done, I realized I had been outplayed,” he said, frustration evident in his tone.
Despite the betrayal, Denilson admitted that their working relationship continued, albeit with reservations. “He would still call me occasionally to shoot skits. He’d pay me ₦100,000 for a video, but over time, I stopped responding to his calls. I realized he was benefiting more from my talent while I remained stuck in the shadows.”
When asked about their current relationship, Denilson stated that there was no outright confrontation. “We didn’t fight or anything. I just stopped reaching out. The last time he called was during Easter. He wanted to collaborate again, but I declined. By then, I had decided to focus on building my own brand.”
Reflecting on the entire experience, Denilson expressed mixed emotions. “Some people think I’m bitter because Mark is successful now. That’s not the case. I started this journey with him, and I know what I contributed. It’s painful to see your efforts dismissed or downplayed. But I’ve moved on, and I’m focused on my future.”
