Drake has taken a significant step back in his legal battle against Universal Music Group (UMG), withdrawing key allegations in his defamation lawsuit concerning Kendrick Lamar’s explosive diss track, Not Like Us.
The lawsuit, originally filed in early 2025, accused UMG of deliberately promoting and distributing the song despite its allegedly defamatory content.
Drake argued that the track, which features scathing lyrics targeting him, incited real-world consequences, including threats to his family and an alarming shooting incident at his Toronto home.
However, UMG has firmly denied any wrongdoing, dismissing Drake’s claims as baseless and emphasizing their longstanding investment in his career.
The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has dominated the hip-hop scene since 2024, with Not Like Us becoming a cultural phenomenon.
The track not only topped global charts but also secured five Grammy Awards, solidifying Lamar’s dominance in the rap battle.
Drake’s lawsuit sought to hold UMG accountable for its role in amplifying the song’s impact, arguing that it severely damaged his reputation.
Adding fuel to the fire, Kendrick Lamar performed Not Like Us at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, further cementing the song’s legacy and escalating tensions between the two rap giants.
Despite the lawsuit’s twists and turns, one thing remains clear—the Drake-Kendrick rivalry has left an indelible mark on hip-hop history.
