Criss Waddle has criticized the Ghana Football Association for not honoring the late Junior Agogo, five years after his passing.
The rapper pointed out that Agogo’s former club, Nottingham Forest, paid a heartfelt tribute to the player, who is fondly remembered for his contributions to Ghana during the AFCON 2008 tournament, which Ghana hosted. In contrast, the GFA has not similarly recognized Agogo.
However, our investigation indicates that the GFA has previously acknowledged the late player and celebrated his birthdays, but this year they have not done so.
Criss Waddle posted;
“Exactly a week ago,Nottingham Forest celebrated Junior Agogo on his 5th anniversary of his death and posted him to show appreciation for his services yet GFA & the official black star pages couldn’t show the same Gesture.kyeres3 black man dier 🤣”
Agogo had a prolific career, playing for fifteen different clubs over fifteen years before retiring from professional football in 2012.
He spent the majority of his career in England, with additional stints in the United States, Egypt, Cyprus, and Scotland. His longest tenure was with Bristol Rovers from 2003 to 2006, where he made 140 appearances and netted over 40 goals before transferring to Nottingham Forest.
Representing the Ghana national team from 2006 to 2009, Agogo scored three goals during the latter stages of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, contributing to Ghana’s third-place finish and adding to the three club titles he achieved throughout his career.
In total, Agogo scored 143 goals during his professional football journey. After hanging up his boots, he established a small group and personal fitness training business.
