An unfortunate report coming from credible sources indicates that former Ghanaian international Christian Atsu is buried by debris as a result of an earthquake in Turkey.

On Monday, an earthquake of a 7.8 magnitude shook parts of Turkey and Syria, wreaking havoc all throughout the two nations, the reports add.

According to writer Yaz Sabuncuolu and numerous other Turkish media sites, while Atsu and club sporting director Taner Savut are still missing, some Hatayspor players have been rescued as a result of the earthquake.

A search and rescue effort is in progress. Newcastle United, Christian Atsu’s previous team, tweeted: “Praying for some great news, Christian Atsu.” The former Black Stars forward who also played for prestigious English clubs like Chelsea, Everton, Bournemouth, and Newcastle for several years, joined the Turkish club in 2022.

A few hours later, a second earthquake with an epicentre close to Kahramanmaras struck, and the death toll has risen to 1,200.
