Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association, was present to show Chris Hughton support during his late father’s memorial service, which was conducted at the Trinity Cathedral in James Town, Accra, over the weekend.

Chris Hughton laid his late father, Willie Hughton, to rest in London on March 15, 2023. The new manager of the Black Stars lost his father in February 2023, the same month he was announced as the new head coach of the Ghana senior national team.

The 63-year-old interred his father on March 15 in front of friends, family, and representatives of Ghana’s high commission in the UK.

To commiserate with him, Kurt Okraku brought a group from the Ghana FA to the memorial service in support of Chris. The Black Stars’ technical staff and the senior national soccer squad were also present.

Hughton was born in Forest Gate, then part of Essex, now part of London, the son of a Ghanaian postman, Willie Hughton, and his Irish wife Christine.

Before joining Tottenham Hotspur, he served a four-year apprenticeship as a lift mechanic after receiving his education at the nearby St. Bonaventure’s Catholic School. In 1981, Henry, his brother, played football for Brentford, Leyton Orient, Crystal Palace, and the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad.
