Christian Atsu’s former team Chelsea FC has launched an auction to help fulfil the late footballer’s wish to establish a school in Ghana.

Chelsea announced on their social media platforms that they have teamed up with Match Worn Shirt to auction off the jerseys and boots that their players wear.

They claimed that these items were worn by players on March 18, 2023, during a match between Chelsea and Everton, both of which were previous clubs of Atsu.

The Premier League match between the two sides ended 2-2 at Stamford Bridge. In addition, all of the team’s signed shirts are included, according to Chelsea, who also listed a number of memorabilia from club icons.

In a statement issued by the club, they wrote: “Money raised will be going to Arms Around the Child, a charity for which Christian was an ambassador, and it will fund the completion of the school they had started building in his native Ghana,” the club announced.

They added that the auction, which started on March 19, 2023, would run until 2 pm on April 8, 2023. Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta wrote some kind words about the late footballer. He wrote:

This initiative allows us to celebrate the life of Christian, an individual who was well-loved within the club and someone we deeply miss. Christian’s wonderful personality shone through the times we shared together and any contribution to the shirt auction will offer valuable support towards the legacy he leaves behind.

Similarly, Newcastle United supporters are set to replicate the same thing. As an ambassador for the charity Arms Around the Child, Atsu, who had previously played for the Magpies and Chelsea, was working on a project to construct a new school in his home country.

At a charged St James’ Park, Newcastle remembered Atsu by conducting a moment of silence prior to their match against Liverpool.

In honour of Atsu, the fan organization Talk of Tyneside has launched a charitable endeavour to complete the school project. They are requesting support from followers for the fundraising, which has raised more than £600 so far.

Talk of Tyneside stated that they wanted to provide a method for fans to express their gratitude for Atsu’s contributions to the team and his involvement with the charity. The group claimed that because Atsu was well-liked on Tyneside, supporting the charity felt like the right tribute to pay to him.

“Following his passing, we were hoping to find a way to give supporters a way to show appreciation for his service to the club, and raising money for a fantastic charity that he worked with feels like the perfect way to do so.”

Ellie Milner, also from Arms Around the Child, spoke about Atsu’s charity work and how they are determined to keep his legacy alive by raising funds to finish the school buildings in Senya Beraku and support the children he loved so much.
