Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as Cheddar, faces mounting challenges as documents from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) unveil a series of tax evasion scandals, with outstanding penalties totaling over GHC7 million.

The revelation contained in a report by Asaaseradio.com, raises concerns about Bediako’s commitment to financial responsibility and transparency, especially as he ventures into presidential aspirations.

According to GRA documents, Cheddar has incurred substantial penalties for failing to file his income tax, exposing a recurrent pattern of non-compliance.

Between 2013 and 2016, he faced penalties of GHC15,222, GHC14,492, GHC13,760, and GHC6,526 for neglecting to file personal income tax returns.

While seemingly compliant for the tax years 2018, 2019, and 2020, Cheddar’s non-compliance resumed in 2021 and 2022, with estimated evaded taxes reaching staggering amounts – GHC2,088,228 for 2021 and GHC5,096,536 for 2022.

Cheddar’s presidential bid, centered around promises of ushering in a new era of development and change in Ghanaian politics, faces a significant challenge with this revelation.

The consistent failure to fulfill the fundamental civic duty of paying taxes raises questions about his credibility and the sincerity of his commitment to positive change.

Meanwhile, Nana Kwame Bediako who is the leader of the New Force political movement, has pointed to attempts by government-backed interventions aimed at hurting his ambition.

According to him, his team paid an amount of GHC30,000 but received GHC10,000 after the government cancelled the event.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2023, Cheddar accused announced that an interview he had scheduled with state-owned broadcaster GBC was called off citing “orders from above.”
