Ghanaian media personality Bridget Otoo has sharply criticized the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, following her recent statement regarding media access to collation centres during the upcoming December 7 elections.
In a scathing remark, Otoo blasted Mensa and her commission for what she described as an unreasonable decision to restrict access to certain media outlets, accusing them of a lack of transparency and fairness.
“You wanted your districts to select media. Jean Mensa and this commission are the absolute worst, and they stand alone!” Otoo wrote on her social media. “Is there any level lower you cannot crawl under?” she added, expressing her frustration over the situation.
The EC has faced backlash after it issued a memo instructing staff at district and regional levels to select media houses for accreditation to collation centres.
This decision has sparked controversy, with many media outlets and industry stakeholders questioning the fairness of limiting access to only certain media houses.

The Commission’s directive to cap the number of media houses granted accreditation to collation centres has raised concerns about the transparency of the election process. According to the EC, the quota system is meant to ensure an orderly and peaceful atmosphere at the centres.
The Commission has emphasized its commitment to transparency and has engaged with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) in a bid to reach an arrangement that would address the concerns of media partners.
Despite these assurances, Otoo and others remain unconvinced. She believes that the EC’s handling of the media access issue only adds to growing doubts about its commitment to a fair electoral process.
