Black Meteors Qualify For U23 AFCON After Dispatching Algeria In Kumasi

After defeating Algeria 2-1 on aggregate in a two-legged affair, Ghana has secured their spot in the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The Black Meteors defeated their North African opponents 1-0 on Tuesday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to book their place in Morroco and probably onward qualification to the Olympics games in France.

Thanks to a strike from Abdul Fatawu Issahaku in both legs, Ghana can now dream of making an appearance at the Olympics game for the first time since 2004.

Ghana got the game going quickly and took the lead right away when Issahaku headed home Nuamah’s precise cross.

The Black Meteors expanded on their early advantage and kept probing, with Nuamah and Issahaku both having their close-range attempts blocked.

The 2024 Summer Olympics is an upcoming international multi-sport event that is scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 with Paris as its main host city and 16 cities spread across Metropolitan France and one in Tahiti—an island within the French overseas country and overseas collectivity of French Polynesia—as a subsite.
