The Black Maidens of Ghana continue to soar at the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup, earning a thrilling 3-2 victory over Benin on Saturday to secure their spot in the semifinals.

It wasn’t just a win; it was a statement of determination and grit.

Coming into the game, the Maidens had already set the tone with a commanding 4-1 triumph over Benin in their opener.

This time, however, Benin seemed determined to rewrite the script. Yenido Gandonou drew first blood, sending shockwaves through the Ghanaian camp and signalling that this match would be no walk in the park.

But the Black Maidens are not a team to bow under pressure. Rising to the occasion, Gertrude Amoafoh and Priscilla Mensah found their rhythm, striking twice to flip the script and put Ghana ahead by halftime.

The roar of the Maidens was back, and it was loud.

Benin wasn’t done yet. Gandonou returned to the spotlight, completing her brace to bring the game level at 2-2, creating a nail-biting atmosphere.

With time slipping away, the Maidens showed their mettle.

Amoafoh stepped up once more, delivering the decisive blow in the 84th minute to secure the win.

This victory not only cements Ghana’s place in the semifinals but also underscores their resilience and hunger for glory.
