ASEC Mimosas emerged victorious in the 2024 President’s Cup, a tournament held in honour of Ghana’s President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Ivorian club was invited by the Ghana League Clubs Association to compete against Asante Kotoko in an exciting match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Despite Asante Kotoko’s efforts, ASEC Mimosas took the lead with goals from Jao and Arthur in the first half.

Asante Kotoko managed to score a goal through a penalty by Steven Mukwala, but it was not enough to secure a win. ASEC Mimosas claimed a 2-1 victory, clinching the title of the 2024 President’s Cup.

The GHALCA President’s Cup is an annual event that showcases two chosen clubs after the season. This prestigious cup is organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and is played in tribute to the incumbent President of Ghana.

Formerly known as the Republic Day Celebrations Cup, it traditionally takes place in July to commemorate Ghana’s Republic Day on the 1st of July.

The reigning champions of the cup are Accra Hearts of Oak, who emerged victorious with a 1-0 win against their rivals, Asante Kotoko, in the 2023 match. Asante Kotoko holds the remarkable record for the most wins, having secured the title on eight occasions.

ASEC, a professional football club from Ivory Coast located in Abidjan, is commonly referred to as ASEC Mimosas Abidjan and ASEC Abidjan in global club competitions.

Established in 1948, they are the most successful team in Ivorian football, clinching the Ivorian Premier Division title 29 times and the 1998 CAF Champions League.

Moreover, ASEC’s Académie MimoSifcom has nurtured numerous renowned players who have excelled in various top leagues abroad, such as Bonaventure Kalou, Didier Zokora, Emmanuel Eboué, Bakari Koné, Gervinho, Salomon Kalou, Romaric, Boubacar Barry, Didier Ya Konan, Kolo Touré, Yaya Touré, and Odilon Kossounou, all of whom have represented their national teams.
