Asamoah Gyan Opens Up On Juju In Football In Fresh Interview

Ghana’s most prolific player Asamoah Gyan has shed light on juju in African football and how most players are complicit in the act.

Gyan who also happens to be the African player with the most goals at the World Cup documented that his career was fraught with juju during colts football as it was a collective decision by the team to seek the face of a spiritualist before the start of games.

He said while playing colts football for Cedar in Ghana’s capital, they were introduced to the act. The former skipper of the Black Stars opened this can of worms when he was interviewed by seasoned sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah recently.

He shared his thought on the controversial subject as follows;

“Everything that has a name is real. We all, like in colts, go together and they instruct us, “Get this and wash with it, do this and that. Also, if you don’t do it and the team loses, they’ll blame you for it. We did it a couple of times with Cedar. When we played Liberty, we lost 4-0, but juju exists in football.

I recall a different Colts game. A man instructed us to take some action to score two goals. If you get one with a padlock, they may occasionally tell you that’s it. When one goal enters, that is it,” he explained, “so it (juju) is there, and you can have an empty net and shoot wide.”People frequently assert that a goal is a mallam goal because Juju is present.

Everyone has a core belief. Someone will walk past a mallam after leaving the church. If they are being completely honest, many players do such things. Someone won’t reveal their secret to you, but if you pay close attention, you’ll notice that something is off. Even while they won’t admit it, there are several things you will notice if you are paying attention.
