After the 2023 African Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast, Ahmed Musa is set to retire from playing for the Nigerian men’s national football team.

According to Musa’s close friend and FIFA-licensed agent Abumere Ededuan, the veteran player plans to hang up his boots on domestic matches after the African football fiesta.

According to him, barring a last-minute change of heart, the Sivasspor winger would leave the field so that the younger players can demonstrate their abilities.

Ededuan said; “You never can tell because in football anything can happen, but that notwithstanding, Musa is hoping to end his time with the national team on a high in Ivory Coast. It’s time for him to give the younger players opportunity to show what they can equally do for our fatherland.

“He has served the nation with highest degree of devotion and dedication and I think his mind is made up… He has given a strong indication that Ivory Coast is likely to be his last port of call with the national team.’’

Ahmed Musa is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward and left winger for Turkish Süper Lig club Sivasspor and the Nigeria national team.

After scoring twice against Argentina at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Musa became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a game.

Musa scored twice against Iceland at the 2018 FIFA World Cup’s group stage to become the first Nigerian to score in two World Cup matches.

He has 108 appearances, making him the highest cap holder for Nigeria since November 2021. Musa was a member of the Al Nassr team that captured both the Saudi Super Cup and Saudi Premier League in 2019.
