Ghana has made history by clinching gold in both the women’s and men’s U-20 finals at the 13th African Games hosted by Ghana.
Despite the enthusiastic support from the packed Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Satellites struggled to break through the resilient Ugandan defence, which posed intermittent challenges for Ghana.
However, Jerry Afriyie’s long-range strike in the first minute of added time tilted the game in Ghana’s favour, ultimately securing a well-deserved victory for the Black Satellites.
Right from the start, Ghana displayed dominance, scoring an early goal that was unfortunately disallowed.
This win signifies Ghana’s second gold medal in men’s football at the African Games, with their previous success occurring in 2011 under the guidance of former Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah.
The defeat was a devastating blow for Uganda, but they found solace in achieving their highest-ever finish in the history of the African Games.
Before this, Uganda’s best finish had been fourth place, achieved in 1999 in South Africa.
With Ghana taking gold and Uganda securing silver, Senegal claimed the bronze medal by defeating Congo 2-0.
