After Felix Afena-Gyan’s mother Juliet Adubea has allegedly come to the defence of her son during a sports programme on Sompa FM when the discussion centred on his refusal to play for the Black Meteors.

The former AS Roma forward who now plies his trade for US Cremonese reportedly turned down an invitation to join the Ghana U23 team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

The 20-year-old was called up to strengthen the Black Meteors team ahead of back-to-back matches against Algeria for a spot in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations this year.

Despite being invited to join the rest of the squad by his club, the former AS Roma youngster turned down the offer.

According to the snippet of information culled from Ghanasoccernet, the Serie A club has received all necessary travel documents from the Ghana FA but the player has chosen not to show up to train with Ibrahim Tanko’s team.

The development has sparked massive speculations online unanimously revealing that the player is not happy that he was snubbed for the World Cup tournament staged in Qatar, having been part of the squad that triumphed over Nigeria in the playoffs.

While the subject was being discussed on Kumasi-based Sompa FM, Juliet Adubea reportedly sent a message to the host urging the public to appreciate what her son had done for the country.

“A message has come and I’m very surprised. This is coming from Juliet Afena-Gyan, the mother of Felix Afena Gyan, and its reads ‘let’s try at least to be grateful for what the boy did for Ghana,” the host read in the video sighted by GhanaWeb Sports.
