Defending champions Senegal made a commanding start to their Africa Cup of Nations title defense with a resounding 3-0 victory over Gambia on Monday afternoon.
The Teranga Lions, who clinched the AFCON trophy in the last edition by defeating Egypt in a penalty shootout, are now on a mission to secure back-to-back championships.

The clash between Senegal and Gambia took place at Stade de Yamoussoukro in the first Group C match of the 2023 AFCON tournament. The defending champions wasted no time asserting their dominance as Pape Gueye found the back of the net in the 4th minute after a well-executed assist from team captain Sadio Mane.
While Gambia struggled to respond, their challenges escalated in injury time when Ebou Adams received a red card, reducing them to 10 players. Seizing the numerical advantage, Senegal capitalized in the second half, with young talent Lamine Camara scoring two goals.

Camara’s brace secured a convincing win for the Teranga Lions, providing them with a positive start to the tournament and instilling confidence as they move forward in Group C.
