Chris Hughton has emerged as one of the highest-paid managers for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

According to a Senenews report, Ghana’s coach receives a monthly salary of approximately $50,000, placing him among the top 10 highest-paid managers participating in the tournament. Earlier this year, Hughton was appointed as the coach of the Black Stars, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his previous managerial roles in the Premier League, including notable stints at Brighton, Nottingham Forest, and Newcastle United.

The report also sheds light on the salaries of other prominent managers at the tournament. Rigobert Song, the legendary Cameroonian, earns around $30,000 per month as the manager of the Indomitable Lions, while Nigeria’s manager, Jose Peseiro, saw his paycheck decrease from $70,000 to $50,000 after signing a contract extension in September.

Walid Regragui, the manager of Morocco, who guided the Atlas Lions to a historic FIFA World Cup semifinal run, commands a monthly salary of approximately $60,000. Jean-Louis Gasset, the manager for the AFCON 2023 host team, enjoys a mouth-watering monthly income of $108,000 from the Ivorian FA.

Rui Vitoria, the Egyptian coach, takes home around $200,000 per month, while Algeria’s Djamel Belmadi claims the top spot as the highest-paid manager in the tournament, earning an impressive $208,000 per month.

The report also features former Ghana coach Avram Grant, who currently manages the Zambian men’s national team and earns a minimum of $25,000 per month.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers will see the Black Stars facing off against Madagascar, Angola, and the Central African Republic.

The Confederation of African Football recently revealed the group qualifying matches for the upcoming edition of this prestigious tournament.

The draw took place in Johannesburg on Tuesday, and a total of 12 groups, each comprising four teams, will be vying for qualification. These teams will play both home and away matches, with the top two teams from each group securing their spots in AFCON 2023, which will be held in Ivory Coast.
