The National Sports Authority (NSA) has made a significant investment of over GH¢200,000 to revamp the Accra Sports Stadium pitch, ensuring it meets the standards required by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This timely upgrade has secured the stadium’s approval to host the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan on October 11, 2024.
The funding was allocated for various improvements, including fertilizers, enhanced labour, soil upgrades, and the installation of specialized irrigation systems.
These enhancements are vital for creating a quality playing surface that meets international standards, particularly given the upcoming high-stakes match.
To meet the tight deadline for the pitch upgrade, experts from Green Grass Technology worked diligently, often around the clock, to ensure that the renovations were completed in time.
They even set up makeshift accommodations on-site to facilitate this intensive work schedule. Their commitment and expertise were crucial in transforming the venue into one that can proudly host international matches.
This upgrade comes on the heels of CAF’s recent rejection of the Baba Yara Stadium due to its subpar playing surface.
The authorities recognized the urgent need to provide a suitable venue for the Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team, to compete against Sudan in the third round of qualifications.
With this successful renovation, the Accra Sports Stadium is now prepared to welcome fans and players alike, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to maintaining high standards in sports infrastructure.
