Coach Chris Hughton has announced his selection for the opening two matches of the qualifiers for the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In Group I of the African qualifiers, Ghana is set to face off against Madagascar and Comoros later this month. With the upcoming crucial matches in mind, Hughton has assembled a formidable 25-man roster.

Notably, Joseph Wollacott has made a triumphant return to the squad following his recovery from injury. However, Baba Rahman unfortunately did not secure a spot in the lineup.

On a positive note, Kasim Nuhu Adams has also earned his place back in the squad. Additionally, the talented trio of Daniel Amartey, Mohammed Kudus, and the Ayew brothers have all been included in the squad, further bolstering Ghana’s chances of success.

The former director of communications of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) shared the list on his Twitter page a few minutes ago, as depicted below:

Meanwhile, in the upcoming meeting of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, it is rumored that Chris Hughton will be promptly dismissed from his position as the head coach of the Black Stars.

Reports suggest that certain members have been approached to vote in favor of this decision during the meeting, which is scheduled to take place on November 10, 2023. The process of removing the former Newcastle gaffer began during the Black Stars’ friendly tour in the United States of America, specifically in Nashville.

According to Citi Sports, meetings have been arranged with government officials today to seek their support prior to the ExCo meeting. As the men’s senior national team prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros, George Boateng is the preferred successor by the FA. Maxwell Konadu and Ibrahim Tanko have also been mentioned as potential interim options.

The GFA favors George Boateng due to his “open-minded” nature and the perception that he is a “safe” choice to oversee the two World Cup qualifiers until a permanent replacement is considered.
