Ghana has been placed in Group B of the 2024 African Cup of Nations, alongside Egypt, a seven-time champion, as well as Cape Verde and Mozambique.
The draw for the tournament was conducted on Thursday, with the event taking place in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, the designated host country for the competition, which is set to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

The Africa Cup of Nations, also known as the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship purposes, or simply AFCON or CAN, is the premier international men’s association football competition in Africa. It is officially sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and has been held since 1957.
Initially, the tournament featured only three participating nations: Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia. South Africa was originally slated to join, but was disqualified due to the apartheid policies of the government at the time. As the tournament grew in popularity, a qualifying tournament became necessary to accommodate the increasing number of participants.
In 1998, the final tournament expanded to include 16 teams (although only 15 teams competed in 1996 due to Nigeria’s withdrawal, and the same occurred in 2010 with Togo’s withdrawal).
Until 2017, the format remained unchanged, with the 16 teams divided into four groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group would then advance to a “knock-out” stage. However, on July 20, 2017, significant changes were made to the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament was moved from January to June and expanded to include 24 teams.
