Ghanaian gospel artist Empress Gifty has opened up about her style, her views on ministry, and her dance moves, addressing criticisms head-on while asserting her individuality in a candid interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne.

Empress Gifty, known for her vibrant personality and striking fashion sense, began by discussing her approach to style.

“That’s them. I don’t buy the clothes, shoes, and bags I wear. I work with brands that ensure I look good,” she said, making it clear that her appearance is the result of professional collaborations rather than personal purchases.

Her emphasis on working with brands highlights her position in the industry, where image plays a crucial role.

When the conversation shifted to her role as a minister, Empress Gifty asserted her right to define her ministry on her own terms.

“You keep saying carry. What do you mean by ‘carry’? We have different types of ministries and functions.

“If I’m not a prophet, why should I act like one?” she challenged, rejecting any expectations placed upon her by others. Her stance reflects a broader conversation within the gospel community about the diverse expressions of faith and the importance of authenticity.

The topic of her online presence also came up, particularly regarding accusations of twerking. Empress Gifty responded with conviction, saying, “What is twerking? I don’t recall twerking on social media.

“If you see only my bum while I’m walking, then that’s your problem; you’ve sinned.” Her response underscores her belief in personal accountability and the idea that how others interpret her actions reflects more on them than on her.

Addressing the scrutiny she faces for dancing on social media, she added, “Even if you see me dancing online, what song was I dancing to? Is it gospel or secular music? If it’s gospel music, then what is their problem?”

Empress Gifty’s comments highlight the double standards that often exist in how gospel artists are perceived compared to their secular counterparts.

She concluded by affirming her desire for freedom of expression, stating, “I don’t want anyone to put me in a box. I am Empress Gifty.”
