Political Parties Come and Go, But I Want to Build Something Lasting for the Creative Industry – Empress Gifty

Ghanaian gospel artist Empress Gifty has shared her aspirations for the local creative industry, expressing her desire to build a dedicated theatre space if she can secure the necessary funding or attract an investor.

During an interview on Onua FM’s Adwuma-Adwuma show, hosted by Felicia Osei, the musician revealed her passion for contributing to the growth of the arts in Ghana.

“My dream is to create a theatre if I can secure funding or find an investor,” Empress Gifty stated. She highlighted how this vision stems from her desire to see the creative industry flourish beyond the short-term focus of political parties.

She explained, “That is my vision because with the political parties, four years will come and go, but the creative industry will remain the same way it is.”

According to Empress Gifty, investing in permanent structures like theatres would ensure long-term benefits for artists and the entertainment community at large.

In recent years, several Ghanaian celebrities have expressed their dreams and aspirations for building a theatre to enhance the creative arts landscape in the country.

For instance, renowned actress and producer Joselyn Dumas has highlighted the need for more structured platforms for performing arts, emphasizing that a dedicated theatre could provide a much-needed space for both emerging and established talents to showcase their work.

She remarked that a theatre would not only promote local productions but also attract international performances, ultimately enriching Ghana’s cultural scene.

Additionally, popular musician and actor, E.L, has voiced similar sentiments, arguing that the lack of proper venues for live performances stifles creativity within the industry.

He mentioned in interviews that investing in a theatre would allow artists to connect with audiences in more profound ways and create an environment conducive to artistic expression.

Furthermore, veteran actress Akosua Agyapong has long been an advocate for the arts and has called for the construction of a national theatre that would serve as a cultural hub for all artistic disciplines.

She pointed out that existing venues often do not meet the needs of modern productions, and a purpose-built theatre could foster innovation and collaboration among artists.
