In an interview on GHOne TV on December 10, 2024, Independent MP-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, didn’t hold back as he unleashed a scathing critique of President Akufo-Addo’s tenure and the current state of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A Plus, a well-known figure for his unfiltered commentary and his role in Ghana’s political landscape, expressed his frustration with the direction the country has taken under Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
“Akufo-Addo doesn’t have many years left,” A Plus began, his tone unrelenting. “And he doesn’t have the people who are going to fight for his legacy.”
He continued, pointing out what he saw as the key flaw of the Akufo-Addo administration—the singular focus on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which he argued was touted as the administration’s greatest achievement, but nothing more.
“Everything Free SHS, and that is all they know. You gave people Free SHS, and he and his government stole everything from us and didn’t listen to us,” A Plus added, his frustration palpable.
A Plus didn’t just stop at criticizing the policies of Akufo-Addo’s government. He also took aim at the President’s leadership, claiming that the NPP had been systematically destroyed under Akufo-Addo’s rule.
“I walked into his constituency and took the seat from his MP,” he declared, a statement that reflects the magnitude of his political success. A Plus, who has always prided himself on his independence and boldness, suggested that it was his effort that helped Akufo-Addo rise to the presidency in the first place.
“I want him to understand that is how I managed to help him become president,” he emphasized, drawing attention to his own role in the political landscape. But despite his efforts, A Plus was clear in his assertion: Akufo-Addo’s legacy is now in tatters. “He has humiliated himself,” he remarked, lamenting the failure of the administration to live up to its promises.
As the interview continued, A Plus reflected on the situation of the NPP in the wake of the election defeat. “It is a shame,” he said. “They have been humiliated, they have been silent, opposition and I am in power.” His words weren’t just a critique of the current administration but also a declaration of his own rising influence in Ghanaian politics.
