Ghanaian actress and social media figure Rosemond Brown, widely recognized as Akuapem Poloo, has called for unity and support within the entertainment industry following an incident at the recent Ghana Movie Awards.

The star revealed that celebrated Nigerian actor Jim Iyke, a guest at the event, walked out mid-way, stirring conversations about the organization and reception of such high-profile occasions.

“Yes, Jim Iyke walked out of the event. But the reason behind it, I don’t know,” Poloo admitted, addressing the speculation surrounding the actor’s exit.

Acknowledging the challenges of hosting an event of this scale, she added, “Organising an event like that is never easy. Maybe he was disappointed, but we all work in this industry, so sometimes you have to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Maybe it didn’t go the way he expected it to.”

Her comments reflect a shared understanding of the unpredictable nature of showbiz, particularly when expectations clash with reality.

Poloo also drew attention to the industry’s history with the Ghana Movie Awards, pointing out that not all editions have met participants’ expectations, but this shouldn’t overshadow the importance of the event as a platform for celebrating talent.

In a heartfelt plea, Poloo emphasized the need for Ghanaians to rally around industry players, especially Fred Nuamah, the organizer of the awards.

“The way you people held Nuamah those days, you should leave him like that. Ghanaians have to love their own; the Nigerians don’t do that. When you hear that Nigerians are doing something, their media supports them.”

She urged her colleagues to recognize the bigger picture, suggesting that even if Nuamah had made mistakes, the focus should remain on the value such an event brings to the Ghanaian film industry.

“We should support him. It doesn’t matter if he has done something. We should focus on what we are going to get. You can spend at least an hour at the event for him to notice your presence. Moreover, he is close to most of you, and this scheme is something that will determine if you are doing well as an actor.”
