The Word in Action church building at Old Bortianor has collapsed, leaving several people injured, and some of its members have been buried under the rubble after it collapsed.
According to reports, seven (7) construction workers are in critical condition as a result of the collapse of a church structure. This tragic event occurred today, Tuesday, May 9, 2023, during worship in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
It is believed that the tragedy occurred as the victims were working on an expansion project outside the building. Workers were trying to evacuate the building when it suddenly collapsed, and witnesses say they heard a strange noise just before it collapsed.
At first, all of the patients were brought to the Bortianor polyclinic, and then one of them, who was badly injured, was transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. It is unclear what caused the disaster at this time.
In the latest news today, UTV posted a video showing the entire structure collapsed to the ground. Some people have been able to get out of the building, and others that were rescued are currently being treated at nearby hospitals.
National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) staff have arrived on the scene to assess the situation and determine if there are any further victims buried beneath the rubble.
