A woman has caused a stir online after her arrest for car theft, claiming that rapper Kanye West communicated with her telepathically, prompting her to commit the crime.
The lady, 28-year-old Ricki Smith, is currently in custody facing charges of auto theft and kidnapping.
This incident reportedly began when she attempted to break into several vehicles parked outside a local establishment.
As detailed in an affidavit from the Evansville Police Department, law enforcement was called to the 200 block of North Main Street on a Friday morning following reports of a woman trying to enter multiple parked cars.
Smith’s narrative shifted unexpectedly when police inquired about her behaviour. She asserted that she was en route from Louisville to Evansville when her car malfunctioned on Highway 64.
After leaving her vehicle behind, she resorted to hitchhiking for the remainder of her journey to Evansville.
When asked why she was attempting to steal another vehicle, Smith gave a surprising response: “Kanye West speaks to me telegraphically and told me to steal the vehicle.”
Subsequent inquiries by law enforcement uncovered that Smith’s car had been discovered wrecked against a tree line adjacent to Highway 64, corroborating her statement about leaving it behind due to the extent of the damage.
After her arrest, Smith was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail, where she is currently being held without the possibility of bond.
