Nigerian journalist Joey Akan has expressed his disappointment in Afrobeats star Wizkid, accusing him of using his ongoing feud with fellow artist Davido as a marketing ploy for his latest album Morayo.
The tension between Wizkid and Davido has been simmering for years, often sparking public interest, but in recent weeks, it has flared up again with Wizkid launching several verbal attacks on his counterpart. Despite these provocations, Davido has remained notably silent, refusing to engage in the public feud.

Amidst the controversy, Morayo, Wizkid’s much-anticipated album, has already broken records across streaming platforms.
However, Akan sees this drama as more than mere coincidence, suggesting that Wizkid is deliberately fueling the rivalry to draw attention to his new release.
“It’s a disappointing realization that beef is part of the marketing campaign for Morayo,” Akan commented, revealing his frustration with how the conflict has overshadowed the music itself.
The rivalry between Wizkid and Davido is well-documented, dating back over a decade. Initially, their interactions seemed like friendly competition, but over time, their relationship soured.
Recently, the animosity has resurfaced, just as Wizkid’s album was released, leading many to speculate that the renewed beef is less about personal grudges and more about generating buzz for Morayo.
Joey Akan, known for his insights into the music industry, has therefore criticized this approach, emphasizing that it tarnishes Wizkid’s legacy. “It cheapens Wizkid. It cheapens his legacy as a cultural leader and absolutely demystifies him,” Akan lamented.

For an artist of Wizkid’s stature, whose influence has transcended Africa and pushed Afrobeats onto the global stage, it’s disheartening to see him rely on such tactics.
“Two decades of leading from the front lose their shine when beef — especially beef without diss records — becomes a tool for marketing,” Akan added, expressing his disappointment at how this feud is detracting from the real significance of Wizkid’s new creative work.
