Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Finance Minister-designate, has promised to work closely with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to boost the country’s revenue collection using technology.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointment Committee, Ampem emphasized that leveraging technology is key to meeting the government’s revenue targets.
“I will work with my minister [Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson] and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to use technology to ensure that we rake in more revenue,” he said.

The Deputy Minister-designate further pointed out that Ghana has a pool of experienced GRA officials, and with the right leadership and incentives, they can drive significant improvements in revenue collection.
“We have officials of the GRA who are so experienced in this and I believe that if we provide them with the right leadership and incentives, we will be able to do this,” he noted.
Ampem emphasized that without technology, achieving the country’s revenue goals would remain difficult. “Without technology, we will not be able to achieve the target we’re setting for ourselves,” he stressed.
The Deputy Minister-designate also expressed a commitment to building on previous efforts and using existing infrastructure to further enhance revenue generation.
“We will build on whatever has been done previously. Government is a continual. We will deploy all those infrastructure that has been provided for us to be able to improve,” he said.
In addition to revenue generation, Ampem highlighted the importance of controlling government expenditure. “We’re going to aggressively pursue revenue generation. And we will cut expenditure, as for expenditure, we need to constraint it,” he concluded, outlining his dual approach to fiscal management.
