The Minister of State-designate for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has emphasized the need for a national dialogue on recruitment processes within Ghana’s public sector.
Speaking during her vetting before the Appointment Committee on Monday, she highlighted key areas requiring urgent reforms to ensure efficiency, meritocracy, and transparency.
“I will be looking at training or capacity building in the public sector, and I will be looking at building and strengthening public institutions and the way we hire people into the public sector,” she stated.
“We should therefore have a national dialogue on how we hire and recruit into the public sector.”
Akanvariba clarified that public sector reforms extend beyond the civil service, encompassing various agencies that require structured recruitment and capacity-building strategies.
“People think that when you mention public sector, it is just about the local service, but there are a lot of agencies,” she noted.
“So we are going to look at how we can leverage technology to understand how to deal with corruption.”
If approved, Akanvariba is expected to spearhead reforms aimed at modernizing the public sector for improved service delivery.
