After the controversial arrest of Fella Makafui for selling unapproved products, netizens are now calling for the arrest of Hajia Bintu as well.
Bintu, a social media influencer, has been selling love potions (kayamata) and aphrodisiacs online, prompting many to question her practices.
Despite the outcry, the FDA has made it clear that they cannot intervene in matters of spiritual knowledge and therefore cannot arrest Bintu.
The regulatory body emphasized that their laws do not cover spiritual claims in a statement on their official page.
“Per the law, the FDA is not mandated to oversee products that make spiritual claims,” the Authority tweeted on May 23.
Kayanmata is available in various forms, including perfumes, cosmetics, lubricants, inserts, powders, and spices. Some variants can even be consumed as complete meals or taken orally in the form of medicinal drinks.
The primary objective of Kayanmata is to enhance the sexual experience between partners. Additionally, there is a sex ritual associated with Kayanmata, specifically performed for young women.
According to sources, this ritual is particularly conducted for very young girls who have no prior knowledge about sex before being married off, commonly known as child brides.
The herbs used in the ritual can be consumed raw, with beverages, or cooked as a complete meal, which the bride consumes alone. The most popular preparation involves cooking the herbs with chicken. After the meal, the bones are buried, and the bride is sent to her husband.
The purpose of this ritual is to assist the young bride in fulfilling her sexual duties without resistance or pain, as she will constantly remain in a state of sexual arousal, always ready for her husband.
