The Agona West constituency of the NPP has expelled several members from the party, effective December 16, 2024, following a unanimous decision by the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee.

The expelled individuals are banned from holding themselves out as party members, holding any party positions, attending meetings, or using party symbols.

The decision follows complaints from party members regarding these individuals’ actions, including running as independent candidates against the party’s official parliamentary candidate, supporting other political parties, and backing an independent candidate in the December 2024 parliamentary election.

Constituency Chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko emphasized that the expulsions were necessary to maintain the integrity of the party.

“We cannot condone actions that undermine our unity and progress,” he stated.

Alhaji Tanko explained that the decision followed numerous complaints from party members regarding the individuals’ actions. He pointed out that these individuals had:

  • Run as independent candidates against the party’s officially elected parliamentary candidate
  • Joined or expressed support for another political party
  • Supported an independent candidate in the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election
  • Demonstrated such behavior in every election cycle
