Why Nigerians Want New Horror Movie ‘Children of The Corn’ Banned In Nigeria

Nigerians have issued funny responses on social media to the Hollywood film ‘Children of the Corn’ which has hit theatres in the United States.

A movie promotion website announced on March 21 that the horror movie had debuted in theatres, but it unexpectedly got a deluge of feedback. After hearing the news, Nigerians who use the microblogging platform flooded the comment area with requests for the movie to not be shown in the country’s theatres.

When Bola Tinubu, the president-elect and a former candidate for the APC, mentioned during his campaign that young recruit troops could be given corn, the word “Agbado,” which is Yoruba for corn, became the new slang in Nigeria.

The movie’s release, which came after Tinubu won the presidential election, left people with a bad taste in their mouths, and it was used as an internet joke and quip.

Others saw it as material that could be used to make jokes online, while some requested that it be cancelled or banned from Nigerian soil.
