Why NDC Opted Out Of Ejisu By-Election- Yamin Explains

The National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin has provided a clear explanation for his party’s decision to withdraw from the Ejisu by-election.

According to Yamin, their primary objective is to build momentum and confront the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general elections.

According to him, he firmly believes that participating in the by-election could potentially divert their focus and impede their progress. Speaking to Adom FM, Yamin intimated:

We are focusing on the national election. We decided to stay away from the Ejisu by-election because we believe after the election, the person will have a few months in parliament and will have to prepare for the general election.

The NDC is of the view that we should rather focus on our timetable for the 2024 election because if we don’t we will be drawn back.

We were supposed to outdoor our running mate last week but we have had to postpone it to this week so there is no time.

Recall that Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the 2nd Deputy Constituency Chairman of the NPP, won the NPP primaries held on April 13 by securing 393 votes, surpassing his closest rival Helena Mensah, who garnered 302 votes.

Mr. Boatend, therefore, found himself in a position to go up against an opponent from the NDC. However, regrettably, the NDC has withdrawn, as previously mentioned, along with the explanation.

The seat became vacant after the passing of John Kumah, which sadly occurred on March 7, 2024.
