President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has spoken about the decision to begin a new housing project rather than continue the Saglemi Housing Project.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Affordable Housing Project on Tuesday, August 1, in Accra, President Akufo-Addo explained the government’s decision. He emphasized that it will incur the government a huge debt if it was to complete the Saglemi Housing project.
President Akufo-Addo has declared that an additional $46 million is needed to finish infrastructure works like water, electricity, and drainage in order to reduce flooding and maintain appropriate infrastructure. It is estimated that an additional $68 million is required to complete the buildings and critical onsite infrastructure, such as waste holding bays and sewage treatment plants, and the construction of social, economic, and civic facilities, such as schools, clinics, and shops.
After a thorough evaluation of the Saglemi project’s location and viability, the Cabinet mandated that Minister of Works and Housing Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye investigate the possibility of enlisting private sector participation to finish the Saglemi housing project at its current value without adding to the government’s financial burden.
This method is meant to guarantee effective implementation and timely delivery of the dwellings for the people of Ghana.
