We Should Be Celebrating Shatta Wale, Not Tearing Him Down – Gloria Sarfo

Actress and entrepreneur Gloria Sarfo has asked Ghanaians to show greater respect and appreciation for Shatta Wale, one of Ghana’s most influential and controversial music figures.

Speaking in a recent interview, Sarfo praised the Dancehall King for his substantial contributions to the success of young artists in the music industry, emphasizing how his support has helped shape the future of Ghanaian music.

“Shatta Wale has sacrificed a lot for the next generation of artists,” Sarfo said passionately. “People don’t realize how selfless he is. He’s always giving up-and-coming artists the chance to shine and helping them succeed.”

Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is no stranger to controversy. From public feuds with fellow artists to bold statements that have ruffled feathers in the industry, his persona has often divided opinions.

However, Sarfo made it clear that these controversies should not overshadow his undeniable impact. “Yes, he’s had his fair share of controversies, but that doesn’t take away from everything he’s done for the industry. We should be celebrating him, not tearing him down.”

Sarfo went on to highlight how Shatta Wale’s influence extends far beyond his own chart-topping hits. Over the years, he has consistently used his platform to elevate the careers of up-and-coming artists, offering them opportunities they might not have had otherwise.

“He’s always looking out for the young ones, guiding them and helping them get the recognition they deserve,” she added.

Shatta Wale’s career is a testament to resilience and reinvention. From his early days as Bandana, when he struggled to find his place in the industry, to his re-emergence as Shatta Wale, he has consistently pushed boundaries.

His ability to transcend genres, merging dancehall with Afrobeats and highlife, has not only made him a local icon but also earned him international acclaim. But for Sarfo, it’s his willingness to uplift others that makes him truly special.

“Shatta Wale has paved the way for so many artists,” she emphasized. “It’s time we start recognizing that. He deserves our respect for all he’s done—not just for himself, but for the entire music industry in Ghana.”

Sarfo’s comments come at a time when the spotlight is on the next generation of Ghanaian musicians. Many of these emerging artists openly credit Shatta Wale for offering them the support and mentorship needed to make their mark in the competitive industry.

His collaborations with younger talent and his guidance behind the scenes have helped many gain exposure and build successful careers.

In an industry where mentorship and collaboration are vital, Sarfo believes that the role Shatta Wale plays is too important to ignore.

“He’s creating a legacy, not just through his music but through the artists he’s helped along the way. That’s something we need to appreciate,” she stated.

Shatta Wale, in Sarfo’s view, is one of those foundational figures whose contributions should be celebrated, not overshadowed by controversy.

“He’s a legend,” she concluded firmly. “And legends deserve to be honoured while they’re still here with us.”
