The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Koduah, has stated that the NPP does not know lawyer Maurice Ampaw and did not authorize him to speak on behalf of the party.

He emphasized that Maurice Ampaw must come forward to defend himself in front of the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

While indicating their willingness to produce Chairman Wontumi as requested by Manhyia, Koduah issued a caveat, stating that the party would not support Wontumi if he failed to appear.

Koduah stated, “We will ask Wontumi to appear before you on Monday as you have requested. We want to put it on record that if he fails to show up on Monday with another excuse, we will take ourselves out of the issue and leave him to fight his battle. As for Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, he does not speak for the political party, and so he has to come and defend himself,” addressing the Ashanti Chiefs.

Chairman Wontumi courted the anger of Manhyia Palace after he was reported to have challenged the authority Asantehene.

He has been summoned together with Maurice Ampaw, who is also accused of denigrating Ashanti Chiefs using Wontumi’s media platform.

The Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday issued a one-week ultimatum to produce Wontumi who had earlier failed to show up, citing medical reasons.
