We Can’t Disappoint Ghanaians – Rex Omar

Veteran Highlife musician Rex Omar has spoken out strongly against the corruption scandals that have marred the current administration, calling for swift action to recover misappropriated state resources.

In a recent interview with Amansan Krakye on Cape Coast-based Property FM, Rex Omar expressed his frustration, saying the widespread misuse of public funds, state lands, and properties cannot be ignored.

“We can’t continue like this because we saw naked thievery of state funds, lands, and properties, and we cannot disappoint Ghanaians,” he said with conviction.

His comments reflect the anger many Ghanaians feel about the perceived lack of accountability for corruption under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government.

He cited the Cecilia Dapaah case as a glaring example of this issue. The former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources was embroiled in controversy after large sums of money were reportedly stolen from her home.

Despite public outrage, President Akufo-Addo cleared her of wrongdoing, a move Rex Omar criticized sharply.

For him, such instances epitomize the systemic failures that undermine public trust. “There are so many scandals under Akufo-Addo that we can’t afford to let go free, like Cecilia Dapaah’s stolen money that the president has cleared her,” he remarked.

Rex Omar emphasized that the status quo, where allegations of corruption are brushed aside, must end.

He argued that allowing these issues to persist unchecked sets a dangerous precedent, creating the perception that governments can come into office, mismanage public resources, and leave without consequences.

“We need to find out what happened because we can’t do it as business as usual. Otherwise, it creates the impression that every government comes to steal and waste public funds and goes scot-free,” he said, clearly frustrated by the cycle of impunity.
