Drama unfolded at the funeral of the late Alhaji Rashid Bawa in Kadjebi, Oti Region, as President Nana Akufo-Addo surprised everyone by requesting chiefs to stand up and exchange pleasantries with him.
Chiefs, known for their authority and respect, are not usually expected to rise and greet others, but Akufo-Addo broke this norm by insisting that they stand up to acknowledge his presence. This unexpected turn of events was captured on video and has since gone viral on the internet.
Alhaji Rashid Bawa, a Legal Practitioner, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria. His body was then transported to Ghana, where he was laid to rest on Friday, March 15, in Kadjebi, following Islamic customs and traditions.
Alhaji Bawa made history as the first Independent Candidate MP for Akan Constituency, securing a victory with 12,306 votes out of the 22,533 valid votes cast, which accounted for 54.9 percent in the year 2000 polls.
Additionally, he served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2008 and held the position of Deputy Minister of Youths and Sports from 2001 to 2002, among other notable roles.
The Government held the final funeral rites for the late Alhaji Rashid Bawa on April 20.
A release was issued on Tuesday, April 9 with the caption, “Final funeral arrangements for the late H.E Alhaji Rashid Bawa. It is announced to the general public that there will be a secular final funeral rite of the late Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, H.E Alhaji Rashid Bawa on the 20th of April, 2024 at Kadjebi”.
