Voting For Akufo-Addo Was A Huge Mistake Ghanaians Made – Kofi Amoabeng

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the CEO of the now-defunct UT Bank, has stated that he believes Ghanaian voters made a serious error by electing President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party to power.

The former military captain claims that Ghanaians are to blame for the country’s current economic woes because they elected President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

During an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3, he made this statement along with other remarks. According to him, the people of Ghana are responsible for the actions of the NPP government, whether they are good or bad, because they voted for the NPP to represent them in running the affairs of the state.

He remembered how the current government shut down the UT Bank and others as part of what it called a “cleanup” of the banking sector.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s made a statement on Thursday, March 24, 2022, that the government has allocated a total of more than 25 billion since 2018 for the purpose of addressing issues within the financial sector.

“Restructuring the banking sector to protect the savings of 4.6 million depositors and strengthening the financial sector. So far, the government has spent over 25 billion since 2018 to clean up the financial sector,” Ken Ofori-Atta said.

However, Amoabeng argued that the purported cleaning up of the banking sector was economically foolish and that the government ought to have given the money used for the exercise to the failing banks in order to help them recover. He claimed the initiative was driven by politics, which would be bad for the country’s future.
