Popular media personality Afia Pokua, commonly referred to as Vim Lady, has provided a detailed account of a troubling incident in which she was subjected to physical assault in 2009 by an unidentified person during the presidency of John Agyekum Kufuor.
She also stated that a thug with ties to the NPP brutally beat a former colleague of hers, a journalist at Multimedia named Emmanuel, after the controversy over some contentious issues.
According to Vim Lady, Emmanuel’s severe injuries from the alleged beatings have left him nearly paralysed and forced him to give up on his journalism career. This was disclosed by Vim Lady during an appearance on Okay FM’s Egyaso Gyaso programme.
“As I speak, my former colleague at Multimedia is almost paralysed; he is called Emmanuel, and he has stopped work because he is unable to walk after NPP thugs beat him to a pulp... Someone in President Kufuor’s security detail ordered another individual to physically assault me, resulting in severe injuries. My attire, beads, and microphone were torn apart during the incident,” Vim Lady stated.
This response from Vim Lady is a reaction to recent events in which people allegedly connected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) interrupted the United Showbiz programme’s live broadcast on UTV.
Approximately seven minutes after host Mzgee had just begun the programme, the interruption began, marked by voices of agitation and confusion. Subsequently, the programme was suddenly removed from broadcasting.
Several reports surfaced after the abrupt break, suggesting that a group of men had entered the studios with hostile intentions and disrupted the show. The angry people apparently wanted to have a confrontation with Kwame A Plus, a regular on the show’s panel.
Later videos that were circulated on social media showed a tumultuous scene inside the UTV studio, with multiple men demanding to know why A Plus tore up their party’s documents and shouting for him.
