The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially declared that it did not grant authorization or approval for the intrusion into UTV studios by certain members affiliated with the party.

These thugs forcibly entered the studio premises with the intention of disrupting a live show, in response to objectionable remarks made by one of the panelists.

Law enforcement authorities have already apprehended 16 individuals who are believed to be connected to this incident.
Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the NPP, emphasized in an interview with Citi News that the party will fully cooperate with the police in order to ensure that those responsible for this act are held accountable.

“The party did not sanction anyone to go and disrupt the United Showbiz program, as was reported. We have moved swiftly to make an apology to them [UTV], and we are going to cooperate with the police to investigate the matter. We think that the attack is unacceptable, and it’s condemnable,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information has officially denounced the recent assault on United Television (UTV) allegedly perpetrated by a group of individuals suspected to have affiliations with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a statement released on Sunday, the Ministry unequivocally condemned any unauthorized intrusion into media establishments, along with any form of interference with media operations. It underscored the paramount significance of upholding the right to free expression and the freedom of the media, as these constitute indispensable foundations of Ghana’s democratic system and demand protection.

“The Ministry condemns in no uncertain terms any unauthorized entry into media organizations in protest at media content or interference with media work. The right to free expression and the freedom of the media are key pillars of our democracy and must be fiercely protected,” it said.
