Rich Homie Quan has passed away at the age of 34. The Atlanta rapper gained recognition for his popular trap hits, including “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”
His death was confirmed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner to The Associated Press, with reports indicating he died at an Atlanta hospital.
Jimmy Sadler, a senior medical examiner investigator, stated that the office was notified of his passing on Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
In the mid-2010s, Quan emerged as a prominent figure in hip-hop, releasing numerous mixtapes before achieving mainstream success in 2013 with the hit “Type of Way.” The track’s popularity led to remixes featuring artists like Jeezy and Meek Mill.
He continued to build on this success by collaborating with Jeezy on a YG track and releasing “Lifestyle,” produced by London on da Track, as part of his Rich Gang collective alongside Young Thug and Birdman.
In 2018, Quan released his debut and only studio album, “Rich as in Spirit,” which featured minimal collaborations, except the single “Think About It” featuring Rick Ross.
In a 2022 interview with The Associated Press, Quan discussed his plans to return to music following a sudden hiatus. He mentioned ongoing legal issues with his independent label, T.I.G. (Think It’s a Game Record), but expressed his readiness to make a comeback.
During this period, Quan found himself in a dispute with his former collaborator Young Thug, who, along with rapper Gunna, faced indictment on charges related to conspiracy under Georgia’s RICO Act and allegations of involvement in a criminal street gang.
