Bien Aime Baraza, popularly known as Bien, is a celebrated Kenyan musician and a key member of the Afropop band Sauti Sol. Here are some quick facts about this talented artist:

Early Life: Born on December 28, 1987, in Nairobi, Kenya, Bien attended Upper Hill School, where he met his future bandmates. He later pursued a Journalism and Media Studies degree at the United States International University.

Sauti Sol: Bien joined Sauti Sol in 2005, and the band has since become one of Africa’s most popular Afropop groups. The band consists of four members: Bien, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, and Polycarp Otieno2.

Solo Career: Bien launched his solo career in 2019, releasing his debut EP “Bald Men Love Better” in 2021, featuring Aaron Rimbui. His solo work includes songs like “Dimension,” “Inauma,” and “Mbwembwe.

Awards and Recognition: Bien has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for songwriting on Burna Boy’s album “Twice As Tall,” which won Best Global Music Album.

Activism: Bien is known for his activism, particularly his support for the LGBTQ community and his criticism of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya for inadequate royalty payments.

Recent Projects: In 2023, Bien released his debut solo album “Alusa Why Are You Topless?” featuring collaborations with artists like Ayra Starr, Ms. Banks, and Scar Mkadinali. He also embarked on a European tour and released a deluxe version of the album in 20241.

Business Ventures: Bien co-founded Hustle Sasa, a platform that allows artists and vendors to sell their products directly to the market. He is also signed to Sol Generation Records, a label established by Sauti Sol1.
