Both TMZ and HipHop DX have reported that Tyrese has been arrested due to unpaid child support obligations.
The actor and musician faces a requirement of $73,000 for his release following his arrest, which was mandated by a court hearing in Fulton County, Georgia, on Monday, September 9.
Judge Kevin Farmer found Tyrese in contempt of court for failing to pay $10,000 per month in support to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee, for their 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, despite a court order issued in April of the previous year.
In an Instagram Live session the day before the court appearance, he appeared to anticipate the arrest, stating that he has never been incarcerated because he does not engage in illegal activities.
He also raised concerns about why Lee’s legal representatives did not review his bank statements to verify his payments, although TMZ indicates that he was contributing approximately $2,200 monthly.
The $73,000 debt he currently faces encompasses $7,500 for Samantha’s legal fees. Reports indicate that Tyrese is in the process of organizing payment, which will lead to his imminent release.
This development follows closely on the heels of the Fast & Furious actor’s emotional outburst, during which he declared his intention to leave social media.
Over the weekend, he shared an extensive message on Instagram after the debut of his film 1992 and the release of his new album, Beautiful Pain.
