Verification on Twitter will no longer be free; this also applies to business accounts, which will have to pay a hefty fee for their verification status.
According to reports, Elon Musk and co. are introducing a new payment plan option for companies or brands who wish to retain their gold checkmark, which, until now, was free for notable or significant entities.
Matt Navarra, a different reporter, appeared to corroborate Twitter’s intentions… which include charging corporate accounts $1,000 per month to be verified. Any affiliate accounts under the larger corporate account will incur a monthly fee of $50 in addition.

The initiative is called Verified for Organizations, and it appears that they are reaching out to companies in an effort to get them on board as soon as possible. If they choose not to pay, they will lose their gold check and seem identical to all other unverified Twitter users. It is unknown when this will take effect.
This new subscription scheme does not appear to apply to media firms, which would be vulnerable to bogus accounts acting as them and propagating fake news.
On the contrary, this appears to be directed primarily at companies, such as Target, Bank of America, etc., whose sole business is providing things and services… and making a profit. It also appears to be a scheme to generate quick cash, which Twitter is apparently in dire need of due to growing litigation and chronic employee shortages.
