The tension between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reached new heights during a White House meeting that was expected to strengthen U.S.-Ukraine relations.
Instead, the discussion turned into a heated exchange over Ukraine’s war strategy, U.S. involvement, and the future of negotiations with Russia.
According to sources, Trump made it clear that he believes Ukraine should prioritize diplomatic talks to end the war.
“I want peace, not advantage,” Trump reportedly told Zelenskyy. He argued that U.S. involvement should not be used as leverage in negotiations with Russia.
Zelenskyy, however, stood his ground, rejecting the idea of immediate peace talks. “How can we negotiate with a killer?” he asked, referencing Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He insisted that Ukraine could not afford to make any concessions, warning that doing so would only embolden Russia further.
The conversation grew more intense, with Trump reportedly frustrated by what he saw as Zelenskyy’s unwillingness to consider alternative approaches.
At one point, Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of showing a lack of gratitude for U.S. support, saying, “You’re not acting at all thankful.”
The meeting ended abruptly, with Trump stating that Zelenskyy “disrespected the United States” and declaring that he would only resume discussions when the Ukrainian leader was “ready for peace.”
The fallout from the exchange has left U.S.-Ukraine relations in question, with European allies closely watching how Washington’s stance on the war may shift under Trump’s leadership.
