President Donald Trump has announced a one-month suspension of the planned 25% tariffs on Mexican goods following discussions with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
This decision comes after Mexico agreed to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
While the tariffs on Mexico are paused, the U.S. is proceeding with imposing 25% tariffs on Canadian goods and 10% tariffs on Chinese imports, effective Tuesday.
Canada has responded by implementing its own tariffs and plans additional levies after a public comment period. China has also threatened “necessary countermeasures” and is considering legal action through the World Trade Organization.

Economists warn that these tariffs could lead to higher consumer prices and potential economic slowdowns across the involved nations.
Despite these concerns, President Trump maintains that the tariffs are a strategic tool to address security issues and trade imbalances.
The situation remains dynamic, with ongoing negotiations and potential for further developments in U.S. trade relations with Mexico, Canada, and China.
